Blog Post #46: A Few Different Things

Posted on Updated on

Many of you might know who these two very beautiful, très adorable, people are, but if you don’t, it’s Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and Adrian Pennino (Talia Shire).

Well, most people who read this probably know that I am a hardcore Caskett shipper, and I am devastated that Season 6 ended the way it did.

Sidenote: If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just leave and watch the season finale because my heart was ripped out and shredded like old homework assignments – ruthlessly.

Anyway, now that Castle is on hiatus, I’ve been having severe Caskett and Esplanie and Ryan (I don’t really have a ship name for Kevin and Jenny :P) withdrawl, and I’ve begun to ship anything and everything.

BUT, (big but right there), this ship – THIS FREAKING SHIP – they are so GODDAMN CAH-YUTE that I cannot stop squealing over them.

We’re watching the first Rocky movie in my English, and before this, I had absolutely no clue what it was.

Another sidenote: I have heard of these movies before, though only once. In middle school, I had this history teacher that played Jeopardy review games before tests, and at the end of the school year, we’d play Jeopardy for fun, so one of the categories was “Sports Movies” or something like that, and you had to guess which sport the movie was about. One of the movies was “Rocky” and another kid buzzed in just to be first, even though he had not even the slightest clue what it was, but he had to answer. AND GUESS WHAT HE SAID? You’ll have to finish reading this to find out :). And trust me – you’ll want to find out.

Back to the original post now..

Well, I’m done squealing over them for now, so I wanna talk about specifically one of the things that Adrian says to her brother, Paulie.

After Rocky is picked up by Apollo Creed, he has his little press conference/interview thing, and he watches it with Adrian and Paulie at their house. I don’t remember the exact words or even what started it, but Paulie gets really upset about something, and talks about how Adrian relies on him completely and that she’s the reason he isn’t married and can’t really do anything he wants.

And man, does Adrian take that to heart, but rightly so.

It is not Adrian’s fault that Paulie isn’t married.

And yes, she lives with him, but he does have his own life and he can do whatever he pleases.

Adrian has a job; she doesn’t need a bodyguard.

Adrian, in fact, points out that she does the cooking and cleaning and washes his clothes and she “takes care of him”.

She doesn’t owe him anything.

And this is what I want to talk to you about.

You don’t owe anyone anything.

Whenever someone decides to do something nice for you, that is their own choice. You don’t need to feel guilty about repaying them for the favor. Whatever it may be, it is not a burden on you. You aren’t a burden on anyone, and you don’t need to feel like you have to do something back for them. They are doing something for you for whatever reason they have, and you and your own feelings about that are completely separate.

This goes especially for people in relationships. Just because they buy you gifts or tell you that they love you, doesn’t mean you owe them anything. You don’t need to have sex with them. You aren’t the muscular system. You don’t contract and stretch as one. You are your own person and that is that.

Be an individual. Appreciate others and acknowledge their kindness, but do not give in to pressure. Do not go against your own beliefs and ethics because you or they feel like they are entitled to something.

Do not.
